An Army Hat Hangs
(A RustyDog Poem)
An Army hat hangs on a little white cross
Where grief had already been hung
In memory of fond friendship lost
A grand monument to a man and dog bond.
“Reminiscences” now flow through the patio panes
Puddling ‘neath the lone walnut tree shade
Where memories outlive days of sunshine and rain
Casting farewells ‘oer Rusty-Dog’s grave.
At the little white cross on that Halloween night lingered Graham
Reflecting towards Rusty--, “I didn’t have a chance to tell him
That today I joined the Army and signed with Uncle Sam…”
Musing still:---…“But, I sure thought I would go before him.”
A decade of friendship had passed between them
With Rusty Dog always there at his side
The pair charming and winning the hearts of Dad, Lisa and Jeremy
So they shared memories with each other and cried.
In memory of fond friendship lost
A grand monument to this man and dog bond
An Army hat hangs on a little white cross
Where grief had already been hung.
